This EPSS was developed as partial fulfillment of the requirements of Education 541 at Cape Breton University.

 

     The purpose of this EPSS is to create a web site of Chemistry labs, an online lab manual, which teachers can access using the navigation bar to the left. This site will contain a variety of labs that can be used in Chemistry 11 and Chemistry 12 in the Province of Nova Scotia. Each lab will contain teacher support in the form of expert advice. As a result of this EPSS, it is hoped that new teachers will place increased emphasis on the laboratory component of the Chemistry curriculum and as a result the quality, quantity, and diversity of labs being performed by Nova Scotia Chemistry students will increase.

     It is hoped that experienced teachers will benefit by having access to a variety of “tried and true” labs that they can then add to their course as a means of meeting the curriculum outcomes or to replace a lab that that they are currently using and may not be happy with. Experienced teachers will be encouraged to submit their own lab, with expert advice, to this online lab manual. Of course, recognition will be given to all submitted work.
